Uncured Elastomer Membranes |
|
These membranes are not cured during manufacturing, but cure naturally during exposure after installation. Typical of this group are some Hypalon membranes. Often reinforced with polyester scrim or woven synthetic materials, the resulting sheet is a tough membrane with high tensile strength. The exposed surface is often white or a light color, for reflectivity.
During initial installation the uncured sheet can be seamed usuing adhesive or heat, either of which fuse the two surfaces together forming a bond stronger than the original sheet. Repairs can be conducted in the same way until the natural curing process is completed, then special primers must be used before welding or gluing.
Benefits
Generally aesthetic, energy efficient, long life, lightweight. Holds up well in ponding conditions. Low maintenance. Repairs are easily made. No extra surfacing required.
